To improve the quality of life for Louisiana's Allen and Jefferson Davis Parish students pursuing careers in Nursing by extending educational opportunities.
About the Foundation
Minnie Olive Mayfield was born October 24, 1903 in Kinder, Allen Parish, Louisiana. She and her husband John Tupper never had children of their own and lived simply. Late in life they enjoyed the benefits of oil production under their farm land, and decided to leave a legacy for the education of young people from their community. As a young woman Miss Olive had worked her way through Nursing School with very little assistance. Helping others now entering this field seemed a fitting opportunity. The Olive Tupper Foundation for Nursing was established in accordance with her final wishes on August 30, 1994, shortly after her death.
Olive's sister, Lucretia Mayfield Tupper, and their friend and long-time legal advisor, Edwin K. Hunter, were initial trustees. Lucretia also left provisions in her estate plan to advance the Olive Tupper Foundation. Following her death in 1997, Lucretia's daughter and Olive's niece, Maxine Coor-Pender, succeeded to the position of President and Trustee.
